Bob talks with legendary soul and gospel singer Mavis Staples about her incredible career with her dad “Pops” and The Staple Singers. After forming at the feet of their father and learning one song, they started playing churches in south Chicago. The kids had to learn more songs, made a few records in basements, met a young Martin Luther King and became part of the soundtrack of the Civil Rights Movement. Staples latest solo album, One True Vine, was produced by Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy and recorded at the band’s studio in Chicago.
