Joan Miro’s Ladder of Escape

Still Life with Old Shoe (1937) The Museum of Modern ArtArtist Joan Miro (1893 – 1983) was one of the leaders of the Surrealist movement and an artistic celebrity in his native Catalonia and beyond.   From now through August 12th, 2012, visitors can see Joan Miro: The Ladder of Escape, the National Gallery of Art’s first retrospective of Miro’s work.  The exhibit ranges from Miro’s early paintings inspired by his country home in Mont-roig, to his sculptures, to his iconic abstract works on canvas.  The Farm (1921-22) The National Gallery of Art
