Each week, we’ll hear a new This I Believe essay – this time by Catherine McDowall. As a girl, she wanted to host a party and planned to invite only the coolest kids in her eighth grade class. But her mother said there’d be no gathering unless all her classmates were invited. Many years later, McDowall’s life and work remain shaped by her mother’s lesson of including everyone. McDowall was a deputy prosecutor in Seattle-King County, Washington, for 11 years but is currently taking a break from legal practice to raise her four children. Her essay is included in the new book and audiobook, This I Believe: Life Lessons.
