essayist Michele WeldonEach week, we’ll hear a new This I Believe essay – this week by Michele Weldon. She is an assistant professor at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and the author of several nonfiction books. A journalist for more than 32 years, Weldon leads writing workshops around the country and speaks on issues related to media and women. She is the mother of three sons. Although their biological dad chose to leave the family, Weldon’s three sons have not been fatherless. Weldon believes the male teachers and coaches and friends who have stepped-in to act as substitute dads have generously embraced her sons with love and served as valuable role models.
