Each week, we’ll hear a new This I Believe essay – this week by Suzanne Biemiller. She lives in Philadelphia with her husband and two daughters. In her spare time, Biemiller works as Director of Policy, Planning and Coordination for Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter. She also served as a consultant to the city’s sustainability efforts, and was a senior program officer at The Pew Charitable Trusts. When Susan Biemiller moved away to college, she started phoning her mother to share updates about her life. Now decades later, she continues the habit because Biemiller believes those regular calls help strengthen the bonds between mother and daughter.
