The Conspirator

by Chad Campbell, senior producer

screenwriter of The Conspirator James Solomon (who reminds me of a cross between James Taylor and Jake Gyllenhaal)The filmmakers and stars of The Conspirator gathered in Washington DC on Sunday, April 10 for a special premiere held at Ford’s Theater. Bob and I talked with screenwriter James Solomon and Robin Wright, one of the film’s stars that afternoon. The Conspirator, which tells the story behind Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, opens nationwide this weekend. It’s directed by Robert Redford and stars Robin Wright (as Mary Surratt), James McAvoy (as her lawyer), Tom Wilkinson (as his mentor) and Kevin Kline (as War Secretary Edwin Stanton). And one of the very important co-stars is Savannah, Georgia which stands in nicely for 1865 Washington, DC. Solomon, a former journalist, spent 18 years researching, writing and trying to get the story to movie screens – he spent so much time on the project he even named his youngest son Lincoln. After languishing for years on the shelf as one of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays, The American Film Company and director Robert Redford came to the rescue.
