Dan Gediman, Arthur Garfield Hays and This I Believe

Each week Bob is joined by Dan Gediman, the Executive Director of This I Believe, Inc. to discuss one of the original essays from the 1950s radio series. This week’s featured essay is by Arthur Garfield Hays, who was general counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union for 30 years. Among his many cases, Hays served as a defense attorney at the Scopes trial (along with Clarence Darrow), the Sacco and Vanzetti trial, and the Scottsboro Nine trial. When it came to naming his belief, the ACLU attorney found it in the basic concept of freedom.
