Dan Gediman, William O. Douglas and This I Believe

Each week Bob is joined by Dan Gediman, the Executive Director of This I Believe, Inc. to discuss one of the original essays from the 1950s radio series. This week’s featured essay is by William O. Douglas, the longest serving Supreme Court justice ever. he sat on the high court from 1939 until 1975. In his essay, Douglas encourages a return to the faith of his father’s generation, believing that spiritual values, not material ones, could guide America through the troubling times of the 1950s.  His prolific career on the bench was marked by controversy and two attempts to impeach him.  Click here to read a transcript and to hear the audio of the  “This I Believe” essay by former Supreme Court justice William O.
