The National Parks: America’s Best Idea

Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan certainly know what they’re doing. I’ve seen bits and pieces (and heard lots of the audio) from their latest project and I can’t wait to watch the whole thing from start to finish. The two men worked for almost a decade on their new documentary series premiering on PBS this Sunday. Burns directed and Duncan wrote and co-produced the six-part, 12-hour film called “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea.”

Click here to watch lots of clips from the project.

When Burns and Duncan finish one documentary, they don’t take much time off. Among a number of other projects, the pair are beginning to research the history of the dustbowl, they’re halfway through editing an update for the series on Baseball, they just started editing a history of prohibition and they’ve begun shooting a series that will explore the whole Roosevelt family – Teddy, Franklin and Eleanor.

Until those projects are complete, I suggest you find out when “The National Parks” is airing in your town, and park yourself in front of the TV. And then of course, head to your nearest national park for a visit.

  1. Hey everyone!

I wanted to spread the word about the National Park Foundation’s BEST IDEA TRIVIA. All of the info is on their website http://www.nationalparks.org/bestidea …. but basically, each night after the PBS broadcast, the National Park Foundation will post a trivia question about that night’s show. The question will stay posted on the website until the NPF posts a new one before the next day’s show…. If you answer the question correctly, your name will be entered into a daily prize drawing. ALL OF THE PRIZES ARE GREAT!! People have a chance to win gifts ranging from Parks Passes to Merrill Gift Cards to Hertz gift certifitcates, ABI stuff etc, etc, etc.

I hope you enjoy the show as much as I do! Happy watching and good luck. 🙂
