Producer Ariana Pekary and I are in New York today receiving a New York Festivals Gold Medal for our documentary, “The Invisible—Children Without Homes.” This is a nice award because it’s an international competition. The other finalists were programs produced in Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland and the United States. It’s the second time we’ve struck gold at the New York Festivals. We won two years ago for “Exploding Heritage,” a documentary about mountaintop removal coal mining produced by Andy Danyo. “The Invisible” also received honorable mention in a competition sponsored by the Journalism Center on Children and Families.
