First-time Caldecott Medal winner Jon Klassen scored a double hitter this year: not only did the 32 year old illustrator win children’s literature’s top prize for his book This Is Not My Hat, but he also won a Caldecott Honor award for his illustrations for Extra Yarn, written by Mac Barnett. In our interview Klassen says he’s thinking about adding a third hat book to his oeuvre, making a hat trilogy that starts with his New York Times bestseller I Want My Hat Back (2011). So far Klassen has drawn a bear in a dunce cap and a fish in a bowler… perhaps next a bird in a ball cap?
