Today, Editor Sophie Ratcliffe talks with Bob about P.G. Wodehouse: A Life in Letters, the first complete collection of the English writer’s personal correspondence. The collection starts with Wodehouse’s school days at Dulwich College and takes readers through his final days as a naturalized American citizen living in Long Island.
Its a fascinating collection for any Wodehouse fan, with letters to 20th century notables that include Jerome Kern, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Cole Porter. But the most arresting letters in the bunch are from the strange episode of Wodehouse’s internment in a Nazi camp, first in France, and then later in Germany. It was in Germany that Wodehouse gave a series of broadcasts on Nazi radio that almost crushed his good name in England.
