Writer, actor, director, producer Bob Balaban and The Creature From the Seventh Grade

by Ariana Pekary, producer

Every so often, you come across someone in show business who is truly interesting.  Bob Balaban would certainly be one of those.  He can be considered an un-Hollywood Hollywood type.

Balaban has been in some of the most memorable films made, starting with Midnight Cowboy, then going on to act in Catch-22, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, A Mighty Wind, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show and Moonrise Kingdom.  He was the producer who came up with the concept tor yje Oscar-winning Gosford Park.  And Balaban is also a writer.  All teenagers should read his newest, The Creature From the Seventh Grade: Boy or Beast, because, really, who hasn’t felt like a mutated dinosaur at some point during adolescence?

Speaking of great pubescent material, Balaban is the narrator for Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, and you can see his costume in this clip.
