The Chieftains at 50

In 1962, musician Paddy Moloney founded a traditional Irish music group called The Chieftains.  Now, this Grammy-winning ensemble (six to date) has produced 40 albums and is responsible for sharing Irish music with the world.  Celebrating their 50th anniversary, The Chieftains recently released Voice of Ages, a collaboration with Bon Iver, The Decemberists, the Punch Brothers and many other contemporary musicians.  This Saturday, The Low Anthem joins The Chieftains on-stage at Carnegie Hall to conclude their 50th anniversary tour and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as only The Chieftains can.

  1. The interview with Paddy Malone had one of those moments in it where we sit in our cars long after the engine has been turned off. I was absolutely spellbound by the piece with Lisa Hannigan – thank you for introducing us to music we would not otherwise hear.
