Bob’s Ebook, Free to You

Free Ebook Available for Limited Time Only

Ah, Bob. Cut out the modesty. You have never been and couldn’t be just another  “voice in the box.”  Of those there are legions: the babble of our times—a vast chorus of bluster and banality.  You, on the other hand, offered a clearing in the jungle:  sanity, wisdom, wit – holding the chaos at bay.  When I rose every morning with you in the room,  I knew I was at home in the universe.  No one’s ever matched your presence. Or your skill at turning the news into stories.   And by the way, you write well, too; this is a dandy book that fills in a lot of blanks.

 —— Bill Moyers

As a gift to all the listeners who have supported him over the years, Bob is making a free, downloadable copy of his new memoir, A Voice in the Box: My Life in Radio, available through major electronic retailers. “You can think of this as the ultimate pledge drive premium considering most public radio supporters already have plenty of coffee mugs and tote bags,” Bob says.  A week before the book’s print edition hits stores, the book can be downloaded for free from:

Amazon’s Kindle Store—http://www.amazon.com/Voice-Box-Life-Radio-ebook/dp/B005J4RGFO/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1314299575&sr=1-1

You can also pre-order a hard copy wherever books are sold.

Bob’s memoir describes his road to success, from knocking on station doors during college and working for the American Forces Korea Network to his work at NPR and induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2004. He presents sharp observations from years of collaboration with interesting colleagues, from Susan Stamberg, his co-host of All Things Considered and the first woman to anchor a nightly national news program, to Red Barber, a sportscaster whose four-minute weekly broadcasts attracted hoards of devoted fans. A Voice in the Box also recalls stories from his most memorable interviews––from Julia Child’s declaration that she preferred quarter-pounders over Big Macs to Norman Mailer’s admission that he fired off a potboiler solely to “pay the bills.”

This promotion is made possible through the support of Edwards’ non-profit publisher, the University Press of Kentucky, whose mission is to publish and disseminate books of the highest merit throughout the world. UPK represents a consortium of all of Kentucky’s state universities, plus five of its private colleges and two major historical societies. The Press is proud to offer the newest addition to its library, A Voice in the Box, free to all of Edwards’ fans, radio devotees, and readers who like a good story.
