essayist Jeff NixaEach week, we’ll hear a new This I Believe essay – this week by Jeff Nixa. He has a law degree, and his careers have included hospital chaplain, massage therapist, and counselor. He is currently completing an apprenticeship with a Cherokee healer, and plans to offer classes on urban shamanism to help people open their hearts and honor the Earth. About 15 years ago, when he was searching for a new house in a new neighborhood, Nixa wanted to find a good, safe place for his family. He’s happy with the location they chose, even though some people questioned his decision at the time. Nixa and his family have enjoyed the diversity of their Near Northwest neighborhood in South Bend, Indiana since 1996.
