Each week, we’ll hear a new This I Believe essay – this week by Sara Roahen. Although she was born in Wisconsin, Roahen calls New Orleans home. The people, the culture and the food of the Big Easy have helped her discover the person she wants to be and convinced her there’s no other place she’d rather live.
Sara Roahen and her husband lived in Philadelphia in the months following Hurricane Katrina, but they’re back in New Orleans now. A writer and oral historian, Roahen serves on the Board of the Southern Foodways Alliance. Her first book, “Gumbo Tales,” chronicles the city’s food culture.
