The Blind Boys of Alabama Take the High Road

(l-r) Bob, producer Chad Campbell, Blind Boys Ricky McKinnie, Jimmy Carter and Joey Williams

Last year in New Orleans during the 2010 Jazz Fest, we interviewed Jimmy Carter, a founding member of The Blind Boys of Alabama. He mentioned an idea for the group’s next CD which would combine his style of gospel music with his love of traditional country music. Now the album is a reality. Take the High Road was recorded over a few days in Nashville and features guest stars The Oak Ridge Boys, Lee Ann Womack, Vince Gill, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr. and co-producer Jamey Johnson. The 13 tracks are a combination of time-tested songs along with a few brand new ones – but they all have that distinct Blind Boys sound. This time, we spoke with Carter again, along with Ricky McKinnie and one of the group’s sighted members, lead guitarist Joey Williams.
