Unlikely Brothers

by Ariana Pekary, producer

I tried to book John Prendergast on the show last year to talk about his work with The Enough Project in Sudan, but we weren’t able to coordinate a time…the man has a very full schedule. Between monitoring the pending secession of Southern Sudan and his international camping trips with actor George Clooney (they spoke at the Council on Foreign Relations last fall and told a cute story about having to share a tent together), it’s not surprising he’s hard to track down.

It was worth the wait, though. We may not have been able to get into the newsy subject of conflict in Africa, but the Prendergast interview with Michael Mattocks carries special meaning about human fault and recovery. Listening to them together, John is the polished speaker, the college educated social advocate who knows how to tell a story and get folks excited. Michael is the seventh grade dropout who equally has a need to express his personal, and equally important, tale. The result is Unlikely Brothers: Our Story of Adventure, Loss, and Redemption.
