DeVotchKa nightcap

by Dan Bloom, producer

In the 21st century, labeling a piece of music as a specific genre accomplishes very little. Tower Records went bankrupt, and with it fell the slavish necessity to find the right ‘bin’ for a band like DeVotchKa. Led by frontman Nick Urata, the quartet infuses their sound with global influences and plays unusual instruments like tuba and accordion not often heard in pop’s mainstream.

In 2006, DeVotchKa collaborated with composer Mychael Danna to score the film Little Miss Sunshine for directors Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Farris, earning a grammy nomination for their work.

Whether opening for acts like Muse, touring the country as they’re doing now, recording albums or scoring film work, it seems DeVotchKa is always gaining admirers. It’s no wonder their latest album is titled “100 Lovers.” It’s available now on ANTI Records.
