Pat Conroy is the author of novels such as The Prince of Tides, The Great Santini, The Lords of Discipline, Beach Music and other best-sellers. In his latest book, Conroy writes about his favorite books to read, the books that shaped him, the books in which he found solace, the books that made him want to become a writer, the books he says saved his life. It’s called My Reading Life.

Janis Owens was the author he mentioned (MY BROTHER MIC HAEL, MYRA SIMS, THE SCHOOLING CLAYBIRD CATTS, THE CRACKER KITCHEN.)
Fabulous interview! Riveting and motivating me to read read read. What was the poem about Lincoln he mentioned which caused the teacher at Citadel to cry?
What a congenial, humane and engaging duo!
I loved this interview. Since I have always been a fan of Pat Conroy, I really enjoyed hearing his story….I too love books. I believe they have had a huge impact on my personal understanding of the world around me, to the extent of liberating me!!
Enjoyed the interview. I can't find the "southern novelist" Pat Conroy said he enjoyed reading. Sounded like he said "Janet Owens". Is that correct? Is there a title I can search for? Thank you!
I thoroughly enjoyed the interview with Pat Conroy. Bob Edwards and Pat Conroy together; how much better can it get?
The icing on the cake was the poem that was read directly afterward. Could you please get me the name of the author and the book from which it came. The subject matter was 'hands'.
Thanks for having such a consistently wonderful show.
Sincerely,
Darlene Reed
