Simon Winchester’s Atlantic

Historian Simon Winchester is the witty, charming and intelligent Brit you want to talk to at the dinner party. He seems to know a lot about everything. He’s always a fun and entertaining radio guest too, and this time is no different. Winchester has made a career out of unearthing the fascinating stories of things many of us take for granted.  Winchester’s latest book is a biography of Earth’s second largest body of water. It’s titled Atlantic: Great Sea Battles, Heroic Discoveries, Titanic Storms, and a Vast Ocean of a Million Stories.

  1. Dear Mr. Edwards and the BEW staff,

Thank you so much for the terrifically engaging conversation with Simon Winchester! Though I'm an occasional listener to the show, I've managed to miss any of Mr. Winchester's other appearances. He is now one of those people whose work I will follow and whose appearances I will seek out. His intelligence, his use of language and the great joy he brings to his subject (and I expect, to everything he does) was tremendously interesting and inspiring. I am very happy to have learned about this man and his work through your program.

    Sincerely,
