Dan Gediman, James Michener and This I Believe

Each week Bob is joined by Dan Gediman, the Executive Director of This I Believe, Inc. to discuss one of the original essays from the 1950s radio series. This week’s featured essay is by novelist James Michener and first aired on our program in July 2009. Michener wrote his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “Tales of the South Pacific” during his naval service in World War Two and was known for conducting extensive research on the history and culture of the places he wrote about. Michener says the people he met during his travels gave him a belief in the brotherhood of mankind and that tolerance and kindness can overcome differences in race, culture and language. Click here to read a transcript and to hear the audio of James Michener’s “This I Believe” essay.
