The Dylan family is understandably private. It could be that they are more shy (modest) than high on themselves. That’s the distinct sense I got from the interview with Jakob. In planning for the interview, his publicist commented on how nice and down to earth he has been to work with. I had forgotten that point the day they were here. He comes from music royalty – and he was on top of the music world when it was still going strong. His sophomore album earned two Grammys with “One Headlight.” It’s fun to revisit that music video:
He’s star material no matter how you slice it, so how can he possibly be humble? I admit, I was a little skeptical; but listening back through the interview, I realized how self-deprecating and witty he really was. Read between the lines however you like – I don’t know that he really says what he means – so that’s just my uneducated assessment.
Now that Jakob’s (temporarily) unplugged, you can hear the distinct Dylan voice in person, backed beautifully by the harmonies of Neko Case and Kelly Hogan. They’re on tour this spring and I suggest trying to catch them in a more intimate setting. See tour dates here on his web site:

When I heard that Dylan was going to be the second part of the show today, I almost turned to a different channel to listen to news on my drive to work. But since I like Dylan’s music, and I love Neko Case, I decided to continue listening, and I am thankful I did. Not only was he a great guest, but the music he played off his newest album kept me listening long after I had arrived at work. Thanks for a great show today!
