David Kirby believes it’s time for a reassessment of Little Richard’s career. In Little Richard: The Birth of Rock and Roll, Kirby argues our most popular musical genre began with the song Tutti Fruiti. As a poet, a Florida State University English professor, and the author of 30 books, Kirby can give proper literary attention to Little Richard’s opening salutation: “A-wop-bop-a-loo-mop-, a-lop-bam-boom.” Then, we’ll discuss the nominees for the Critic’s Choice Awards with our resident entertainment critic, David Kipen.
