Dan Gediman, Bobby Doerr and This I Believe

Each week Bob is joined by Dan Gediman, the Executive Director of  This I Believe, Inc. to discuss one of the original essays from the 1950s radio series. This week’s featured essay is by baseball hall of famer Bobby Doerr who believes in what he calls “doing good in order to deserve good.” Doerr says he’d rather do things that help his teammates and his family succeed instead of simply benefiting himself. Bobby Doerr played second base for the Boston Red Sox from 1937 to 1951. He was a nine-time All-Star and elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986. Doerr retired to land in rural Oregon he bought when he was a teenager and that’s where we reached him by phone to comment on the essay he recorded decades ago. Click here to read a transcript and to hear the audio of his “This I Believe” essay.
