Anthropology-based Medicine

You know how when you know HOW something was built and works, then it’s easier to fix? That goes for something like a car engine, for example. Auto workers know the different mechanical parts and where they go and why, so they’re much more proficient at making repairs. Why, then, wouldn’t that same concept apply to the human mind and body? Understanding how the human body evolved and why should be common knowledge for all doctors, but unfortunately it isn’t. Medical students have a lot to learn as it is, much less piling on the science of anthropology, archeology, and molecular biology. Those are the three branches of science behind evolutionary medicine as described by Dr. William Meller during today’s interview. It’s incredibly fascinating to know why we tend to overeat carbohydrates and why the sun is actually better for us than we’ve been lead to believe over the last 30-40 years. Needless to say, we weren’t able to cover everything during this interview, so if you want to learn more, pick up a copy of Evolution Rx to keep on your bookshelf for reference.

Here’s a link to purchase the book.
