Testifyin’

Bob appeared yesterday before the FCC, on behalf of AFTRA, testifying about the importance of local programming on the radio. See, media ownership regulations have loosened significantly in the past decade (with talk of even more loosening) allowing one company to own several radio stations in a single market. This usually means that programming decisions are coming from a central office nowhere near the market being served. That’s why you may have noticed that a classic rock station in one city sounds exactly like the classic rock station in another. You can read more about Bob’s testimony here and here. And you can read Bob’s thoughts on the matter here.
